FINAL PROJECT: ANIMATED INFOGRAPHICS

In the final project we need to work with our group on a given topic and break down the information into several parts - narrative and visualization, during this process we should before transferring the information to storyboards Use “what, why, where, when, who, and how” questions to construct a narrative.

Expected results:

- An animated infographic (minimum 1.5 - maximum 3 minutes of video) that introduces viewers to a given topic.

- Must include some form of data/statistics.

- Must use questioning techniques and provide answers.

Script + Storyboard + Assets

Initially, we created a simple briefing slide deck that included research, mood boards, visual references, storyline, and storyboards. My team members and I compiled a historical timeline of video games.

2. Storyboards and mood boards Here's what we've compiled about video games (including their history): Arcade->Red and White->Gameboy->Mobile->pc->vr

Week 2: Script Analysis, Visual Suggestions and Mood Boards:

  • Ensure that the script analysis is detailed enough, including a detailed understanding of the setting and character-playing, to provide a solid foundation for subsequent visual presentation.

  • Create multiple mood boards in different styles to illustrate visual direction and mood.

Week 3: Visual sketches and animation drafts

  • Produce preliminary visual sketches and animation drafts to quickly validate concepts and designs. This helps to quickly adjust and revise possible issues or improvements before moving onto a formal storyboard.

Week 4: Storyboarding and Animation

  • Maintain storyboard coherence and clarity to ensure each shot effectively conveys plot and emotion.
  • Before making brain-burning animations, conduct a small-scale test animation production to ensure that the animation style and technology selection are in line with expectations and can effectively convey the story content.

Week 5: Finalizing visuals, art direction and assets, draft animated infographic.

  • When finalizing visual and art direction, ensure adequate communication and feedback with the entire team to ensure everyone has a clear understanding and expectations for the final product.
  • When creating a draft of your animated infographic, consider how to best visualize the animation and message to ensure your audience can easily understand and absorb the information.
Week 6:

  • We should add more elements and animation effects to the video: add some audio effects from the game to make the video more interesting, give each picture a natural transition, the timeline should be more complete, and correct the year when using AI dubbing pronunciation.

Week 7
  • In our animation, there are many spelling errors that need to be corrected.
  • After Mr. Shamsul's feedback, we restarted our project. In the remaining 2 weeks, we need to reasonably plan the division of labor among team members so that the results can be better presented. Our video game timeline is too broad. Finally, after the teacher’s suggestion, we chose to study Nintendo’s game history (game consoles, famous games).

Animation draft:

Our team made some modifications to the screen content and completed the AI illustrations.

We have completed the first version of the animation.

REFLECTION

Experience
Creating an information animation as a team is a difficult process that requires a lot of communication and expression, and each other's style and creativity also need to be unified. During the process, I accumulated a lot of experience in communicating with team members and using tools such as AE and AI.

Observations
I noticed that the use of different styles and colors should focus on unity and highlight the protagonist in the content. For this project, I specially searched for three suitable font styles for the team members to choose. Most of them are commonly used in video games. Fonts, such as: pixel-style and technology-style text (in the early days of game development, most arcade and game console fonts used pixel-style text. In the later stages, more technology-style text was used).

Findings
I personally tried it and realized that creating an informational animation is not as easy as it seems, it requires a unique style and a lot of research, so in order for our animation to be successful, we need more communication.
