Task 3: Innovative Packaging & Merchandise

INSTRUCTION

Task 3

Task 3 is a collaborative project. We were asked as a team of 3 to create a packaging design for a SBS student product. The main flavors of the cup noodles they developed are chicken soup and wolfberry. The main target group is young women, because the function is to achieve beauty effects through the collagen in the ingredients.

I thought of using more Korean elements in my concept, such as the Cup Noodles lid with the Tai Chi element in the Korean flag to express the origin of Cup Noodles and using noodles and soup as the base to highlight that it is Cup Noodles, so I drew Created a Sketches to express this concept.

IDEAs:

After coming up with the concept, I came up with a paper sketch that used the Taegeuk figure from the Korean flag as the center of gravity.

Concept References:

Reference:

^ These are the references provided by SBS students, they hope we can refer to them for design.

Then, we have the brand name ideas from SBS students.
After the discuss, we chose the KOLLOJI to be the brand name.

Final, we have the logo from SBS students.

Angeline added cute elements to the design, with a cute chick as the protagonist, expressing youth and the use of chicken soup

After getting the elements of this cute little chicken, I chose to combine the previous ideas to create a background to fit it.

Procreate vision sketches

After mirror, I used Procreate to blend them together, including the background I drew and the chibi characters drawn by Angeline.

We decided to hold a meeting with them to understand their needs. After showing it to SBS students, they chose the second sketches.

They think this sketch is more in line with ideas.

I also think that Sketches is more in line with our brand’s youthful and beautiful image.

After everything Angeline created the AI Verson for us

Since the colors SBS students chose were too dark, I used the red and blue colors from the Korean flag as the main colors to highlight the chibi character in the center.

At the same time, I also thought about using the yellow color of chicken soup to express the importance of chicken soup.

Finally, I combined the ideas of the two and miraged them into red and blue on the left and right, and the color of chicken soup in the middle.

Ms. chose the #3 color, so we use the #3 to continue our work.

Angeline created the fourth typographies for choice

We change the size to the correct size.

After referring to ingredients, I used Excel to create a bilingual version of the Label

They chose the first cover

I add the HACCP and GMP marks for food safety certification and the clear nutrition labels inform consumers.

final cut noodle Dan Gomtang design for the collaboration with students of SBS.

Final mockups:

Printing:

Size: 10.5cm(w) x 10.5cm (L) x 8.8cm (H)

I purchased the necessary props such as scissors, double-sided tape, cutter and real cup noodles as reference

In the end we found that the size of the cup noodles was different from the actual proportions, and it was impossible to improve it according to the normal proportions.

Task 3B

Task 3B: After completing the packaging design for the SBS students’ Dak Gomtang flavored cup noodles, we started the next project to create at least six promotional items.

We created two additional flavors, spicy and tomato. For the spicy flavor, the chicken mascot was redesigned to look like it was breathing fire. For the tomato flavor, the chicken mascot was designed to look like it was hugging a tomato.

First Version done by Angeline:

AI Version done by me:
I created ai versions for every mascot,

Tiffany one the color picking for the mascots and put them together to make all three flavors.

Tiffany used red and orange tones to highlight the spicy and tomato themes.

REFLECTIONS

The lessons I learned in Task 3 were how to communicate and collaborate, understand the client’s preferences and needs for design, and balance team members’ concepts and ideas. I also learned how to emphasize the presence of the brand and group all promotional items into a series, and I also found it difficult to organize all the promotional items into one image and keep them beautiful, something that appears in the scene It was unreasonable, and it led me to explore many of the features in Photoshop, such as the ability to adjust proportions and bends.
