When you add an adjustment layer to an image, a new layer will appear on the image, and a properties panel specific to the type of adjustment you have selected will pop up. The Properties panel will allow you to modify adjustment layers, which in turn will modify your image.
1. BRIGHTNESS / CONTRAST
Brightness/Contrast adjusts the tonal range of the image.
The Brightness slider adjusts the highlights in the image, and the Contrast slider adjusts the shadows in the image.
2. LEVEL
Level modifies the tonal values in the image by
Adjust the levels of shadows, midtones, and highlights.
It's one of the most used tools in the Adjustment Layers panel and can go a long way in correcting your image with just a little bit of leveling.
3. CURVES
Curves allow you to adjust as many points as you want across the tonal range of the entire image, and are the most powerful and precise tool for editing tones in an image.
4. EXPOSURE
Exposure allows you to adjust the exposure level through three
Sliders: Exposure, Offset and Gamma.
Exposure will adjust only the highlights of the image, Offset will adjust the midtones, and Gamma will adjust only the dark tones.
5. SELECTIVE COLOR
A Selective Color adjustment layer selectively modifies the number of primary colors without modifying the other primary colors in the image.
Filters
There are filters to change colors, add blur or create completely new image effects. Photoshop offers almost limitless filters for this.
