Favorite Stop Motion Videos

During week 1, Mr. Martin required us to choose 3 favorite stop motion videos to prepare us for this final project.

The Sea Is Blue: A Stop Motion Short Film | Field Day Presents Vincent Peone

The author observes the underwater world from a girl's first perspective and expresses the profound meaning of ocean pollution.

Stop plastic pollution (Paper stop motion animation)

Create schools of fish and garbage through creativity on a flat surface. Although it is flat, it is very immersive.

World Water Day Plastic Pollution Stop Motion

It's a short stop-motion piece but it clearly uses sad sound effects, and the fish are clearly the protagonists.

Idea Proposals 

Idea 1: Use props to create an idea similar to interstellar travel and look at the earth's marine ecology from the perspective of travelers from other planets.

Idea 2: Use plasticine and some toys to express the pollution of the marine ecology. Human beings throw garbage into the ocean and oppress the survival of marine life.

I chose idea 2 because I had enough props to complete the whole story.

Setting Up

For this shoot, I purchased some marine creatures to use as main characters and scenery.

Shooting of each scene

During the shooting process, we tried to use different angles to slowly advance and shoot, and we repeated the shooting many times.

Editing

After completing the shooting of all scenes, we started using software to edit.

We used the stop motion app to shoot, so we can edit more quickly.

I started production in Adobe Premiere Pro, such as color grading and adding sound effects, to make some pictures look more reminiscent of memories.

In the first attempt, the entire stop-motion video lasted 39 seconds.

Final Stop Motion Video 

‘Humans throw garbage into the ocean, which oppresses the environment of marine life and causes some marine life to be implicated and die. Two dolphins were playing when the baby dolphin got trapped in rubbish.  So, the big dolphin went to find its little friend to rescue it, but when the little dolphin was rescued, it had already died.  This group of friends was very sad, recalling how the ocean was the most beautiful in the beginning. Because of humans, the environment has become worse and worse, and there are fewer and fewer friends around them.  Ocean pollution is also becoming more and more serious.

REFLECTION

This project is very challenging for me. We need to prepare appropriate props and establish an interesting and attractive theme. We need to have a strong imagination to conceive a story with appropriate transitions and conflict points, and a thorough understanding of the story. Adding sound effects allows it to express sadness and highlight the concept of protecting the ocean.
